Collin served as a soldier in the Kentucky militia in 1793.  In 1794 he married Amy Moore.  They had four children: Ashley, Jimmy, Emeline and Polly but sadly both of his middle children died as babies.  His wife also died in 1804.  A year later he married Betsy Leak Coleman and they added 7 more children to the family: William, Amy and Margaret (twins), Anna, Samuel, Eliza and Younger Scott.  He went on to have many jobs, and was a great and trusted friend to many important influental people.  After a long and productive life he died on September 8, 1861.  His headstone reads:
